BREAKING NEWS: Philadelphia Flyers Waive 29-year-old goaltender

The Philadelphia Flyers have placed goalie Cal Petersen on waivers today. Petersen, a 29-year-old goalkeeper, has faced challenges this season playing for both the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms. His performance includes a 5-8-2 record with a 3.26 GAA and .890 SV% over 15 Phantoms games. In his brief five-game stint with the Flyers, he holds a 2-2 record with a 3.90 GAA and .864 SV%.

Currently in the second year of a three-year contract valued at $15 million, Petersen also possesses a 10-team no-trade clause. Given his contract terms, it will be a tough decision for any team to claim him off waivers.

In the next steps, the Flyers are likely to promote Felix Sandstrom from the Phantoms. Sandstrom has participated in 20 games this season with the Phantoms, achieving an 11-6-2 record with a 3.23 GAA and .882 SV%. Although the Swedish goalkeeper has not played in the NHL this year, his career stats stand at 3-16-4 with a 3.62 GAA and .887 SV% across 25 games.

It is anticipated that Samuel Ersson will take on more responsibilities for the Flyers moving forward. Ersson has a record of 17-11-4 with a 2.55 GAA, .901 SV%, and three shutouts in 33 games this season.
