Penn State Receives Unfortunate Recruiting News on Saturday Morning

The Penn State Nittany Lions are just over a month removed from a College Football Playoff semifinal run.

On top of that, Penn State has quarterback Drew Allar and running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen returning for 2025 while bringing over Jim Knowles as defensive coordinator, who was at Ohio State.

However, the Penn State football program received some unfortunate recruiting news on Friday.

Class of 2026 wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford has decommitted from Penn State after choosing Penn State initially in December, as he announced on his X page.

“After intense discussions with my family, I have decided to recommit from Penn State and reopen my recruitment,” Guilford wrote. “This was not an easy decision.”

“With the new landscape of college recruiting, I want to make a decision that is as close to perfect as possible for my future,”

Guilford continued. The Class of 2026 WR went on to thank the Penn State coaches and supporters while mentioning wide receivers coach Marquise Hagans and head coach James Franklin.

Guilford is a three-star prospect in the Class of 2026, per 247Sports, and plays at Northrop High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Georgia, Ohio State and Indiana were other big programs in consideration for Guilford before he chose Penn State in December.

The Penn State 2026 recruiting class was ranked fourth nationally by 247Sports before the departure of Guilford. At the beginning of February, Michigan also sent an offer to Guilford, and the young WR is opening up his recruitment in a blow to the Penn State program.
