Ohio State 4-star prospect reportedly lands multimillion dollar NIL deal with Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech secured a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Josh Petty, surpassing Ohio State in the recruitment process. Reports indicate that Petty has signed a three-year “Roster Value” agreement with the Yellow Jackets, guaranteeing him a minimum of $800,000 annually. A source from Florida State, which also pursued Petty, noted that his recruitment did not escalate into a bidding war.

Petty’s father, James Petty, emphasized that the educational opportunities at Georgia Tech, along with the potential for Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) earnings, were significant factors in their decision. He stated, “My son and other athletes have an opportunity to put together a financial foundation that will allow them to transition in life and be able to address some of the issues of affordability.

Chip Kelly announced that another freshman from Ohio State football has lost his black stripe. During Thursday’s press conferences, both Kelly and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles discussed various topics, including the quarterback competition and the battle for the right guard position as the Buckeyes approach the 2024 season.

Ryan Day’s decision to name a starting quarterback has implications for Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and Air Noland.

In preseason honors, ESPN and The Athletic recognized former Alabama transfer safety Caleb Downs, predicting he will have a standout debut season with Ohio State. Both outlets named Downs a first-team All-American. Additionally, ESPN highlighted five Buckeyes for preseason accolades, with running back Quinson Judkins, offensive guard Donovan Jackson, defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, and cornerback Denzel Burke receiving second-team honors. The Athletic also praised Jackson, placing him on the first team alongside Downs, while wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and Williams earned second-team recognition.

J.J. McCarthy’s first NFL season has come to an abrupt end before it even began. The former Michigan quarterback, who led the Wolverines to a national championship in 2023 and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in April, underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus and will miss the entire season.

In his preseason debut against the Raiders, McCarthy completed 11 of 17 passes for 188 yards, throwing two touchdowns and one interception. However, he experienced knee discomfort afterward, leading to an MRI that confirmed the need for surgery.

With McCarthy sidelined, the Vikings will rely on Sam Darnold as their starting quarterback for the 2024 season. Despite the disappointment of losing their rookie quarterback, the Vikings remain hopeful for McCarthy’s future recovery and success in the NFL.
