Travis Kelce is not having the best NFL season so far. The 34-year-old tight end struggled to get touches during the Kansas City Chiefs’ third game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons on September 22.
After the game, quarterback Patrick Mahomes commented on Travis’ performance, noting the high level of respect teams have for him. He stated, “We’re calling a lot of plays for Travis, but it’s like two or three defenders are going to him. He wants to make an impact, but winning is his priority.” Patrick highlighted that as more players like Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy make plays, it may help open opportunities for Travis.
Despite Kelce’s struggles, the Chiefs are currently undefeated, winning all three of their games. On his New Heights podcast with brother Jason Kelce, Travis expressed that he has learned not to stress about early-season performance. He admitted that earlier he would get frustrated but now understands that inconsistency is part of football.
“I used to get really, really pissed off and almost lose my cool a lot of the time from not having that success knowing that I demand that out of myself and I just like to play the game to such a high level of accountability that it’s just tough for me to deal with being mediocre or having stats that represent that,” Travis said.
“For whatever reason, these past two games it hasn’t gone that way for me and that’s football, man,” he added. “I’m not about to sit here and get frustrated about it.”
However, during the game against the Falcons, Travis was seen looking downcast, sitting on the sidelines with his head down and rubbing his eyes. Additionally, there was a sweet moment shared between Travis’ mom and Taylor Swift’s mom at the game.
