The Baltimore Orioles have made a notable addition by signing, son of former MLB star Tom Gordon, who once excelled in the division against them.
The team announced on Tuesday that they have signed the versatile player, Nick Gordon, to a minor-league contract. At 29 years old, Nick is the son of Tom Gordon, a three-time All-Star reliever and former leader in saves for the American League.
Tom played in the AL East with the Boston Red Sox in 1998 and later with the New York Yankees in 2004. Additionally, Nick has a brother, Dee Strange-Gordon, who is a former MLB player, multiple-time All-Star, and ex-NL batting champion.
While Nick Gordon’s stats suggest limited potential—he holds a career batting average of .244 and has a negative WAR across four MLB seasons—the Orioles are betting on his experience. He has played six different positions on the field, predominantly in left field, and may bring value to a Baltimore team that has been focused on budget-friendly acquisitions this offseason.
