Oregon State Adds Lara Alonso-Basurto to Complete 2025-26 WBB Roster

Alonso-Basuro is the third Spanish player on the OSU roster, joining Cloe Vecina and Lucia Navarro. She and Navarro are both currently competing for a spot on the Spanish roster for the upcoming U20 European Championships.
“We’re thrilled that Lara chose to become a member of our program,” head coach Scott Rueck said. “She is a versatile forward who can shoot the three and finish around the rim with both hands. She brings an impactful defensive presence with her length as well as an ability to finish through contact on the offensive end. Lara is a dynamic player that Beaver Nation will love and I am excited for them to meet and support Lara this fall.”
“I’m beyond excited to sign with Oregon State University! This is a dream come true, and I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way,” Alonso-Basurto said. “I truly believe Oregon State is the perfect place for me to grow both as a player and a person. A special thank you to all the coaches who believed in me and gave me this amazing opportunity. Can’t wait to start this new chapter! Go Beavs!”
The incoming freshman is one of the top players from Madrid, playing with CB Alcobendas and Distrito Olímpico in 2024-25. Alonso-Basurto helped Distrito Olímpico become Champions of Madrid and earn a promotion to Liga Femenina 2. She was twice named league MVP of the Week. In September of 2024, she scored 24 points with five rebounds to take the honor while in March of 2025 she earned it with 18 points and nine boards.
In 2024, Alonso-Basurto was one of six selections for the Spanish U18 3×3 national team ahead of the world championships. This spring, she was added to the Spanish training camps for the upcoming U20 Euros.
Alonso-Basurto is the third freshman joining an Oregon State roster fresh off its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and its ninth since 2014 under head coach Scott Rueck. The Beavers return three starters from last season’s WCC Championship team and will have a full team of 15 in 2025-26, the largest of Rueck’s tenure at OSU.
