Ole Miss Dealt with Unfortunate Transfer Portal News

Former Top Recruit Leaving Ole Miss Basketball After One Season

The Ole Miss men’s basketball team was the talk of the NCAA Tournament this season after making its first Sweet 16 appearance in over 20 years. Head coach Chris Beard has pushed the program into the spotlight in just his second year at the school and changed the perception of Rebels basketball.

This shift has helped the program land highly touted recruits like center John Bol, who was a consensus four-star prospect and the No. 54 player in the class of 2024, according to ESPN. On Tuesday, however, 247 Sports’ Travis Branham reported that Bol was leaving Ole Miss and entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Bol played just 68 total minutes in 17 games as a freshman and saw his role dramatically decrease as the season went on. He averaged 1.2 points and 1.0 rebounds per contest for the Rebels and recorded career highs in points (4) and rebounds (4) on multiple occasions.

Ole Miss was an experienced team this season, as 10 players were listed as seniors on the roster, and Malik Dia, a junior, cut into Bol’s playing time as well.

However, with so many players leaving, it stood to reason that Bol was going to have an expanded role for the Rebels next season, but Bol would rather hit the portal and seek a change of scenery.
