The seven foot center from Germany spent his first three seasons with Santa Clara, starting the past two seasons. As a junior Tilly averaged 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. The big shot 55.4% from the field and 77.1% from the line, while shooting a bit from three at a 31.5% clip on 1.7 attempts per game. Tilly also earned second team All-WCC honors.
Tilly has one year of eligibility remaining and is the second player to commit to Ohio State from the portal, joining former Indiana guard Gabe Cupps. Ranked as the seventh-best center in the portal per 247Sports, Tilly will look to find playing time alongside bigs Sean Stewart and Ivan Njegovan. The two bigs averaged a combined 24 minutes, 7.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. With Aaron Bradshaw, who averaging 16.9 minutes, 6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, entering the portal there should be some playing time available down low for the Buckeyes.
The expectation is that Ohio State will still be active in the portal for at least one or two more players, with the Buckeyes likely set to target a wing and possibly another player for the post.
