Ohio State key Target Set to Announce his college Commitment on Saturday

Tennessee target David Sanders Jr., the five-star offensive tackle from Charlotte, North Carolina, is set to announce his college commitment tomorrow, Saturday, August 17th, at 12:30 p.m. ET. The announcement will take place in the Providence Day Gymnasium in Charlotte.

Sanders, the No. 2 overall prospect and top offensive tackle in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings, is choosing between Tennessee, Ohio State, Nebraska and Georgia. Tennessee is considered the presumed favorite, with Ohio State and Nebraska also in the mix.

The Buckeyes are hoping to land Sanders, as he would be a major addition to their offensive line recruiting efforts for 2025. However, fans need to be prepared for the possibility that he may not choose Ohio State. If Sanders goes elsewhere, the Buckeyes will have to regroup and likely turn their attention to the transfer portal to bolster their offensive line after this season.

All eyes will be on Sanders’ announcement tomorrow afternoon as he decides where he will continue his academic and football career. The outcome could have significant implications for the programs involved in his recruitment.

As the top uncommitted player in the 2025 recruiting class, David Sanders Jr. has become a focal point in the recruiting landscape with fall camps underway nationwide. According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 2 overall prospect, the top offensive tackle, and the leading player from North Carolina.

On Saturday, Sanders will decide among Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio State, and Nebraska.

With the announcement approaching, the Tennessee Volunteers appear to be in a strong position for his commitment. Last week, they received five predictions in their favor—four from On3 Sports and one from 247 Sports. On3 Sports Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons expressed confidence that Tennessee was “setting the pace” as the decision date nears.

Tennessee has effectively showcased what life in Knoxville would be like for Sanders, hosting him five times in 2024. They are optimistic that their recent surge will help them secure his commitment.

Recent projections favor Tennessee, giving them an 82 percent chance of landing Sanders, compared to Ohio State’s 4.5 percent and Georgia’s 3.4 percent, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Tennessee’s 2025 class is already ranked in the Top 10 by 247 Sports, and a commitment from Sanders would solidify their status with a premier recruit. Currently, the Vols hold the No. 8 class with 12 four-star and nine three-star players, and they hope to add Sanders as the only consensus five-star player this weekend.

Sanders was named the 2023 North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year and received Second Team All-American honors from MaxPreps during his junior year. He played a key role in helping Providence Day School achieve over 3,700 passing yards and an impressive 8.6 yards per rushing attempt during the 2023 season while blocking for Michigan quarterback Jadyn Davis.

There’s no doubt that Sanders is a legitimate top-two prospect in the recruiting rankings.

“He tends to explode out of his stance and consistently plays with urgency, always looking for work,” noted 247 Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivens in August. “His advanced hand placement provides an edge in pass protection, and he excels at changing direction and re-establishing position. He moves upfield effortlessly and can effectively clear traffic on screens.”
