Ohio State Buckeyes & Coach Ryan Day Receive Another Exciting News
The past few months have been especially memorable for Ohio State head coach Ryan Day.
Day led the Buckeyes to a national championship, saw 14 of his players selected in the NFL Draft, and now adds another achievement to his résumé: Coach of the Year honors.
The Football Writers Association of America has named Day the recipient of the Super 11 Coach of the Year award. This recognition is given to a head coach who demonstrates exceptional media accessibility throughout the season, including regular interviews with the head coach, coordinators, assistants, and players.
Past recipients of the award include Florida State’s Mike Norvell, TCU’s Sonny Dykes, Boston College’s Jeff Hafley, Indiana’s Tom Allen, Kansas State’s Chris Klieman, and Herm Edwards of Arizona State.
Under Day’s leadership, Ohio State has been one of the most media-friendly programs. Weekly press conferences feature Day and often include offensive and defensive coordinators, while select players are available to the media on Wednesday evenings during the season. Up to 10 players may speak with the press on any given Wednesday night at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
In addition, Day is the centerpiece of the Ryan Day Show, broadcast Thursdays on WBNS 97.1 The Fan. Hosted by play-by-play announcer Paul Keels and color analyst Jim Lachey, the show often features assistant coaches after Day’s segment. He also regularly appears on other Columbus-based radio programs and occasionally on local CBS affiliate WBNS 10TV.
Day holds a 70-10 overall record at Ohio State, including a 46-5 mark in Big Ten play. He captured his first national title in 2025 with a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame. His tenure also includes two Big Ten titles and a 6-4 record in bowl games.
Ohio State begins its 2025 campaign on August 30 at home against Texas.
