“Huge Blow” as Turnover-Prone NC State Basketball Alum Loses in Olympic Debut

Former NC State basketball guard Lorenzo Brown is hoping for a better outcome when Spain faces Greece next week.

Brown is just the third player from NC State to compete in the Olympics, following Kenny Carr in 1976 and Tommy Burleson in 1972. Additionally, he is the first former Wolfpack player to represent a country other than the United States.

On Saturday morning, the 33-year-old made his Olympic debut at the 2024 Games in France, but it wasn’t the favorable start he had envisioned, as Spain lost to Australia 92-80 in Group A play.

Brown, a standout backcourt player for NC State from 2010 to 2013, began his professional career in the NBA but has spent the last six seasons playing overseas and acquired Spanish citizenship two years ago.

In the game, he registered seven points in 26 minutes, shooting 3-for-10 overall, missing all four of his three-point attempts, and hitting 1-for-2 from the free-throw line.

The 6-foot-5 starting point guard also contributed two rebounds and seven assists, but he recorded a game-high seven turnovers.

Spain has a couple of days off before their matchup with Greece at 5 a.m. ET on Tuesday. They will conclude their Group Phase schedule against Canada at 11:15 a.m. on Friday.
