According to reports, the Parramatta Eels star was the target of a verbal attack by a fan, which is being looked into by the NRL.
Star Origin front-rower Junior Paulo was the target of a verbal taunt from a spectator on Saturday night following the Eels’ loss to the Newcastle Knights.
News Corp reports that the NRL and Venues New South Wales have been notified of the incident and are currently conducting an investigation.
The magazine is aware that Paulo chose not to file an official complaint and that it might have been a racial incident.
A Venues NSW official told News Corp., “We will use all measures available to identify people involved, and will work with the NRL to issue banning notices.”
“In the Venues NSW network, racism is not tolerated at all.”
It represents the most recent instance of fan abuse directed towards NRL players during a game, and the NRL and Venues NSW are investigating the perpetrator.
Two supporters received permanent bans in mid-May for reportedly shouting racist epithets at Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker, two members of the Rabbitohs team.
