The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are nearly one month removed from their national title loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Notre Dame is likely over the loss by now – at least the initial sting of defeat. However, life for head coach Marcus Freeman and company took another unfortunate turn on Friday morning.
The Fighting Irish were in talks to land a new general manager after USC poached former Notre Dame general manager Chad Bowden just a few weeks after the national title loss. Unfortunately for Freeman, those talks took a wrong turn.
According to a report from Pete Nakos of On3Sports, the Fighting Irish were in talks with Texas Tech’s James Blanchard, viewed as one of the top front-office staffers in the country, for more than a week. Blanchard, though, decided to remain with the Red Raiders.
“He ultimately decided to stay in Lubbock, keeping his family in the state of Texas. He played a pivotal role in constructing the No. 1 portal class this winter in On3’s 2025 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings and will now have the opportunity to see it on the field,” On3Sports wrote.
Texas Tech landed the No. 1 recruiting class in 2024 with five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson headlining the historic class for the Red Raiders. Notre Dame will have to look elsewhere for its new general manager heading into the 2025 season.
