North Carolina Receive Unfortunate Recruiting News on Tuesday
After winning six Super Bowls as the head coach of the New England Patriots over 24 years, Bill Belichick is making the transition to college and taking over for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
One of the biggest differences between the NFL and collegiate level is recruiting, but Belichick has done pretty well and, according to On3, currently has the No. 38 class of 2026 in the nation.
However, that number would likely be better if not for quarterback Zaid Lott, who decommitted from the Tar Heels on Tuesday after originally pledging himself to the program on June 24, 2024.

It’s certainly an unfortunate development for Belichick and the Tar Heels, as On3 industry rankings had Lott ranked as a three-star recruit, the No. 34 player in North Carolina, the No. 53 quarterback and the No. 765 player in the nation.
This entire sequence of events becomes even more interesting because, on the same day he decommitted, Lott committed to Syracuse, which just made him an offer on Sunday.

What makes things even worse for North Carolina is that he was also the only quarterback North Carolina had in the class of 2026.
Luckily for North Carolina, they still have a strong pool of talent coming in, including four-star defensive lineman Trashawn Ruffin, three-star cornerback Justin Lewis and three-star running back Crew Davis.
