Big News for UNC Recruiting

And after landing some recruits in June, the Tar Heels are emerging as a favorite in a battle for a four-star linebacker.
Texas native Calvin Thomas is a prospect who the Tar Heels are pursuing in the 2026 recruiting class as the linebacker is getting set to make his decision on Saturday, July 12th. With Thomas ending his recruitment soon, rumblings are out that a leader has emerged, and it’s the Tar Heels.
On3’s Sam Spiegelman noted that the Tar Heels are the favorites for Thomas going into his Saturday decision, some good news for UNC. The crystal ball on 247Sports also favors the Tar Heels right now as they hold the lone prediction from Nebraska insider Brian Christopherson.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Thomas is listed as a four-star recruit on the 247Sports consensus rankings which take into account multiple sites. He’s ranked No. 254 nationally, No. 18 linebacker and the No. 33 player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports rankings.
He has 34 offers in his recruitment and took five official visits. Thomas took trips to North Carolina, Nebraska, Michigan, SMU, and Texas, with those programs being his finalists. But as decision day looms, it certainly feels like this is UNC’s race to lose.
