Nine key-players set to compete at 2024 IIHF World Championships for Columbus Blue Jackets

Several members of the Columbus Blue Jackets organization are set to participate in the 2024 IIHF World Championships in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia. The team will be well-represented with players and staff from various countries.

  • Director of Player Development Rick Nash, along with defenseman Damon Severson, will represent Canada at the tournament.
  • Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins will represent Latvia.
  • Right wing Gavin Brindley, left wing Johnny Gaudreau, and defenseman Zach Werenski, along with Head Athletic Trainer Mike Vogt, Equipment Manager Jamie Healy, and Assistant Equipment Manager Dustin Halstead, will participate for the United States.

Rick Nash, serving as Hockey Canada’s general manager, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously earned a silver medal as the assistant general manager at the 2022 tournament. Nash, a Brampton, Ontario native, has an extensive history of representing Canada in various international events.

Damon Severson, a defenseman acquired by Columbus from the New Jersey Devils, will be skating for Canada in his third IIHF World Championships. Severson has been a key contributor on the blue line for the Blue Jackets, showcasing his skills and experience in international competition.

Elvis Merzlikins, a seasoned goaltender for Latvia, has a strong track record in international tournaments, including multiple appearances at the IIHF World Championships. Merzlikins, drafted by the Blue Jackets, brings his talent and experience to represent his home country.
