Nick Saban to Return as the LSU Tigers Head Coach
Nick Saban has spent the last year away from coaching as he ended up retiring following the 2023 college football season. This led to Saban joining the College Football GameDay broadcast for the 2024 season, seemingly setting up his next job for the foreseeable future.
This might end up not being the case, though, as instead recent comments made from people close to Nick Saban like Lane Kiffin, and Greg McElroy make it seem like a return to coaching could be happening.
Greg McElroy at SEC Media Days went on to say, “A very much in-the-know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around, and just really, really admire — they seem to think Nick Saban is not done coaching. He’s pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again.”
If Nick Saban did return, it would have to be for the right opportunity, and that could be to return as the LSU Tigers’ head coach.
Nick Saban to Replace Brian Kelly as the LSU Tigers Head Coach
The hot seat for Brian Kelly has been sporadic. Things haven’t been smooth sailing for Kelly fully since he became the head coach of the Tigers. They had 10 wins in his first two seasons, but last season they struggled more and finished with just nine wins. For as talented as the LSU Tigers roster is, to not capitalize on the talent reflects poorly back on Kelly as a coach.
The Tigers are a team that isn’t afraid to move on from a coach if success isn’t there, take Ed Orgeron, for example, as he was fired just a few seasons after winning a National Championship.
For LSU, with the rumors surrounding Nick Saban’s potential return, they need to reach out and make a move to bring him back on as the head coach.
There is no denying the type of coach Nick Saban is, and with his ability to develop talent, and despite being away from coaching for a year would be able to come right in and provide a spark that they need from a coaching perspective.
Nick Saban has talked before about his regret leaving LSU for the NFL to coach the Miami Dolphins, leaving him to wonder what would’ve happened had he stayed at LSU. This gives him the chance to go back there and help turn the LSU Tigers back into a powerhouse in the process of moving on from that regret to close out his coaching career.
