NFL insider explains why Pittsburgh Steelers haven't added another veteran wide receiver image

Since the Pittsburgh Steelers traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, many have wondered if general manager Omar Khan would add another veteran wide receiver.

Steelers fans certainly want to see that with the team pretty much in the same boat it was in during the 2024 campaign, when the team had Pickens and not much else behind him. Now, it’s DK Metcalf and a slew of question marks behind him.

Roman Wilson is unproven, Robert Woods is well past his prime and Calvin Austin, who is better suited as a No. 3, hasn’t been practicing for weeks now due to injury.

While the Steelers seem ripe for a veteran addition at wide receiver, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed the team hasn’t made a move there because of its faith in Wilson.

“The Steelers haven’t signed more veteran receivers up to this point in part because they are high on Roman Wilson, who impressed both in the joint practice with the Bucs and the game. Last night was a good sign for Pittsburgh,” Fowler wrote.

Considering the Steelers’ situation at wide receiver, Wilson’s performance in preseason Week 2 might have been the most important one.

Wilson finally broke loose, reeling in two passes for 72 yards. His best play came on a 42-yard connection with Mason Rudolph.

That was really the first big sign of life we’ve seen out of Wilson in his NFL career. He was injured for pretty much all of 2024 and had just two catches for 24 yards in preseason Week 1.

While it was great to see Wilson come to life, he remains a massive question mark for the Steelers and depending on him remains a risky proposition.
