NFL Draft expert Todd McShay offers an exciting analysis On Broncos Heisman Trophy runner-up
Few NFL Draft analysts have been as consistently impressed with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty as Todd McShay. Now with The Ringer after previously working at ESPN, McShay views Jeanty as one of the top running back prospects to enter the NFL in the last ten years.
In a recent post on X, McShay analyzed a seemingly routine run by Jeanty during Boise State’s notable game against Oregon. The play was a zone run to the left, which Jeanty skillfully cut back to the right to secure a first down.
“Only a few running backs can truly recognize that cutback,” McShay commented. “He has an innate ability to feel that back-forming crease, sensing it from a distance … knowing that an opening will appear. His body control, low center of gravity, and quick footwork allow him to shift back to the right while maneuvering past the offensive line and efficiently gain yards up the field.
“It’s remarkable. While it may not be his longest run, it’s not something just anyone can do. This is a recurring theme you see on his tape, which is why we’re discussing him as potentially the top running back and a candidate for a top-five or top-seven pick.”

Jeanty concluded the game with 25 carries, amassing 192 yards and scoring three touchdowns, helping the Ducks rally in the fourth quarter to secure a 37-34 win. Both teams advanced to the College Football Playoff.
Standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 215 pounds, Jeanty shattered records during his junior year, totaling 374 carries for 2,601 yards and 30 touchdowns. His 2,601 yards place him second on the all-time single-season rushing list in FBS history, just behind Barry Sanders.
He received the Maxwell Award for college football player of the year, the Doak Walker Award for the best running back, and his second consecutive Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year award. Jeanty finished as the runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting, coming in second to Travis Hunter from Colorado.
Several NFL teams have expressed interest in Jeanty, including the Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6 overall), New Orleans Saints (No. 9), Chicago Bears (No. 10), Dallas Cowboys (No. 12), Cincinnati Bengals (No. 17), Denver Broncos (No. 20), Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 21), and Los Angeles Chargers (No. 22).
The Bears are currently favored to draft Jeanty with odds of +130, followed by the Raiders at +150 and the Cowboys at +550.
The 2025 NFL Draft is set to take place from April 24-26 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
