The Colorado Avalanche absolutely destroyed the Minnesota Wild on Thursday evening by a final score of 6-1. As the score indicates, the game wasn’t even close. It was so far out of hand that when it came about time where a team would pull their goaltender, the Wild didn’t. It’s as simple as that. This game was fun, and it was especially fun for one of the team’s goal scorers of the evening, Ross Colton.
Colton took the puck away from a Wild player, and all alone in front of Filip Gustavsson, he wraps a nice shot at the Wild’s goaltender for another goal for the good guys.
As you can see, the play was a simple pass from the trapezoid for the Wild, but with Colton in the way, it made it almost impossible for the Wild to complete a pass there. You absolutely have to give credit to Colton for having the epic awareness. It could have easily been a bang-bang pass like usual, but Colton’s smartness overpowered Declan Chisholm.
It’s a bit tough to understand how Chisholm whiffed on that sort of pass, but at the end of the day, everybody is human. As Bleacher Report Open Ice on X said in their tweet, along with the clip, it was a belated holiday gift. That’s a pretty awesome way of putting it.
If you missed it, Colton was interviewed by Kyle Keefe during the following intermission and provided a hilarious response regarding his goal.
Colton has been on a tear this season, despite missing several games due to injury. Head coach Jared Bednar stated earlier in the season that he hoped to get Colton back on the first line alongside Nathan MacKinnon, because that’s where he excelled at most this year. Because of injuries to other players, Colton got bumped up to that first line, and as of right now, he has 13 goals and two assists in 26 games.
There’s no telling what more he can do for this team, but I can speak for everybody in saying that it’s really nice to have Colton on this team, especially when he makes those goofy expressions on the ice. He is having the best time in the world.
