News Update: Preview: January 5, 2025: New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles….

THE STORYLINE:
Disclaimer: As previously mentioned, since the 2024 New York Giants season all but officially ended before Halloween (again), I have decided to use the last nine game previews as a running blog on the state of the team moving forward.

John Mara is the president and CEO of the New York Giants. He can control every aspect of this team, including the roster and coaching staff. Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles is an intelligence test for Mara. We’re about to discover just how smart or stupid this man really is.

THE INJURY REPORT

  • WR Malik Nabers (toe, probable)
  • WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton (shoulder)
  • OC John Michael Schmitz (ankle-out)
  • OG Jake Kubas (shin, probable)
  • OT Evan Neal (rib/hip-out)
  • DT Armon Watts (knee-out) (placed on Injured Reserve)
  • DT Cory Durden (shoulder, probable)
  • OLB Brian Burns (illness—probable)
  • OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux (toe, probable)
  • ILB Micah McFadden (neck-out)
  • ILB Ty Summers (neck, probable)
  • CB Greg Stroman (shin-out)
  • CB Dee Williams (toe, probable)

The Final Word:
There is no upside to winning this game. None. But the downside is potentially enormous. The Giants, who have already dropped from the #1 overall pick to #4, could drop all the way to #9. The Eagles are sitting their starters, so there isn’t even a potential moral victory here. In fact, most of the New York fan base will be irate if the team wins. Does Mara understand that? The irony is that the Eagles franchise probably understands this better than the Giants. If the Giants don’t play every bottom-tier player on the roster to intentionally lose this game, the future for this team will remain as bleak as ever.

Stupid is as stupid does.
