Two players have been placed on waivers, including former Hurricanes first-round pick.
It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for waiver news! It has been announced that Adam Beckman of the New Jersey Devils and former Carolina Hurricanes first-round pick Julien Gauthier are now available.
Typically, the NHL publishes the names of players placed on waivers by their teams, usually for reassignment to the AHL or for outright buyouts. Generally, these moves involve lower-end players who don’t make the roster, though bigger names have also appeared on the waiver wire, including Steve Sullivan, Ilya Bryzgalov, and Hall of Famer Mark Recchi.
On Sunday, October 20th, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman announced via his X account that both Julien Gauthier, a forward for the New York Islanders, and Adam Beckman, a forward for the New Jersey Devils, have been placed on waivers.

Julien Gauthier – New York Islanders
Gauthier, a former first-round pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2016 Draft, has had a sporadic NHL career and has yet to establish a consistent role on any team. Drafted ahead of notable players like Tage Thompson, Jordan Kyrou, and Jesper Bratt, it seems Carolina experienced some buyer’s remorse, leading to his trade to the New York Rangers for Joey Keane.
After another trade to Ottawa during the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Gauthier had a decent stint with the Senators before signing with the Islanders in the summer of 2023. However, he has bounced between the NHL and AHL and is likely headed back to Bridgeport unless claimed.
In his NHL career, Gauthier has accumulated 19 goals and 22 assists over 180 games, including a career-high six goals with the Rangers in the 2022-2023 season.
Adam Beckman – New Jersey Devils
Beckman, drafted 75th overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2019, has yet to become a significant part of the Wild’s plans, failing to live up to the potential he showcased during his time in Spokane, where he scored 186 points in 152 games, including an impressive 107-point season in 2019-2020. With only 23 games played for the Wild, he has not yet recorded his first NHL goal but has tallied three assists.
This summer, Beckman was traded to the New Jersey Devils for forward Graeme Clarke, a player drafted just five spots after Julien Gauthier in 2019. Unfortunately, Beckman’s season has gotten off to a rough start due to a preseason injury, preventing him from displaying his skills for New Jersey. He is expected to head to Utica for a conditioning assignment and could find himself called up for a game in the near future.
