Toronto may have one of its own selected for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game

Despite featuring top talent from around the league, NBA All-Star Weekend has struggled to attract significant ratings and interest for quite some time. The game often turns into a high-scoring, flashy showcase, but it rarely creates a competitive edge between the opposing teams that keeps fans engaged.

The NBA has taken various steps to address this sentiment, including a successful reimagining of the 2020 All-Star Game campaign to honor the legacy of the late, great Kobe Bryant. In preparation for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, reports indicate that league officials are seriously considering another shakeup to the event’s format.

According to Shams Charania, ESPN’s Senior NBA Insider, the NBA All-Star Game will be revamped into a pickup-style tournament format. The event will feature four teams, each consisting of eight All-Stars, with one of the teams including the winner of that weekend’s Rising Stars game.

This news is undoubtedly a boost for the Toronto Raptors. While it doesn’t guarantee that any player will become an All-Star, it certainly enhances their chances. As the only non-U.S.-based team in the NBA, the Raptors face challenges in gaining the respect they deserve.

Looking ahead, the Raptors seem to have a solid shot at securing an All-Star selection next year. Their current rebuilding phase does affect their visibility, but the team has a strong roster that could enable them to vie for a spot in the All-Star Game.

For instance, consider the winner of the Rising Stars game—sophomore Gradey Dick from the Raptors is likely to be a participant given his impressive performance this season. Should his team excel, it’s plausible that the 21-year-old Gradey Dick could end up as an All-Star representing Toronto.

If you’re thinking about which other Raptors players might get attention in the All-Star voting, RJ Barrett and Jakob Poeltl are definitely standing out this season. Barrett is a leading candidate for the Most Improved Player award, currently averaging nearly 24 points, 6.5 rebounds, and just over six assists per game. Meanwhile, Poeltl has established himself as a top big man in the league, averaging 17 points and almost 12 rebounds per game this season.

Also, keep an eye on Scottie Barnes; while he needs more playing time to be a serious All-Star contender, he has already made an All-Star appearance as an injury replacement last year.

Fans can only hope that at least one Raptors player makes a strong case for inclusion in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
