Nebraska HC Matt Rhule under fire from Tennessee fans over halftime leak
Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule learned an important lesson this week — Tennessee Vols fans never forget.
Rhule went viral on Monday for a “leaked” video of his halftime speech in Nebraska’s 68-0 win against Akron.
The third year Nebraska head coach ripped into his team despite the Cornhuskers holding a 33-o halftime lead.
At one point in the video — which was edited and looked professionally filmed (which probably means it was “leaked” on purpose) — Rhule tells his team that he wants other programs to say, “I don’t want to schedule those guys anymore”.
“It’s about time people say I don’t want to schedule those guys anymore, I don’t want to play those guys anymore,” says Rhule in the clip.

Tennessee Vols fans break out the receipts to burn Matt Rhule
As that video made the rounds on social media on Monday, it didn’t take long for Vols fans to bring up the fact that Nebraska recently canceled an upcoming home-and-home series with Tennessee.
Correction: Tennessee is not canceling this series. Nebraska did. We are very disappointed that they didn’t want to play these games, especially this close to 2026. https://t.co/uSz7kAXk94

“Why in the world would a Big Ten team who’s already playing nine conference games, why would you ever play one of those games,” said Rhule to Urban Meyer on the Triple Option Show a couple of days after Nebraska’s games with Tennessee were canceled.

Rhule was a tough guy in the locker room when talking about a MAC team like Akron while knowing that his program canceled a game with an SEC program like Tennessee because it would make the schedule too difficult.
Vols fans always have the receipts. And Rhule learned that the hard way this week after his “leaked” halftime video backfired.
