NCAA Post Strong Paige Bueckers Message After Historic Announcement
Paige Bueckers had quite the historic game in the Sweet 16 clash between the UConn Huskies and Oklahoma Sooners, which hyped up not only their fans but also the NCAA.
The 23-year-old guard exploded for 40 points, leading the Huskies to the 82-59 win over the Sooners. Bueckers also shot 16-of-27 from the field, including 6-of-8 from deep, and recorded six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Not only was it a career-high in scoring for Bueckers, but she also made history by setting UConn’s NCAA Tournament record for points scored in a single game.
After the NCAA made the announcement on X, it followed up with a wordless message along with a photo to hype up Bueckers’ performance.
NCAA’s official March Madness account posted two star-struck emojis while tagging both Bueckers and UConn. It was accompanied by a meme from “The Hunger Games” showing the character Caesar Flickerman saying, “OMG IT’S THE GIRL ON FIRE.”

Making the performance even better, Paige Bueckers refused to hoard the credit after the game. Speaking to ESPN’s Holly Rowe, the superstar scorer said that her teammates made it possible.
“Really, it’s not about me,” Bueckers shared. “Jana (El Alfy), Ice (Brady), Sarah (Strong), the way they protected the paint, this game was on them. They (Sooners) have a really good interior team. Raegan Beers. They got people posting up. They just protected the paint. They rebounded extremely well… They played extremely physical. Huge shoutout to them because we wouldn’t have won this game without them.”
It was indeed a game to remember for Bueckers and the Huskies. Now, as they move on to the Elite Eight, plenty of eyes will be on the projected No. 1 pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft and whether or not she can maintain her elite scoring form.
