NC State receive yet another significant news on a Monday morning
NC State landed a commitment from former Northwestern linebacker Kenny Soares Jr. moments ago. The Wolfpack continues to overhaul the defense with yet another linebacker added to the roster, with Soares Jr. joining previous additions like AJ Richardson and Sterling Dixon from the winter portal window.
The 6-foot-2, 231-pound Soares Jr. joined the Wildcats’ program in 2022, redshirting his first season. During the 2023 campaign, Soares Jr. recorded 37 tackles, including four for loss and two sacks, and two pass breakups. Last fall at Northwestern, Soares Jr. totaled 20 tackles, including 1.5 for loss.
Soares Jr. played in 24 games during his Wildcats’ career over the course of two seasons. The Avon, Conn. native was expected to battle for a starting spot with Northwestern this offseason prior to entering the transfer portal on March 13 and ultimately committing to the Wolfpack less than one month later.
He’s a three-star transfer prospect and No. 78-ranked linebacker in the portal, according to 247Sports. He entered the portal as a graduate transfer and is expected to receive his degree from Northwestern in three years with the program.
