NC State Baseball Suffers the Decommitment of another Highly Rated Star Player

Thompson, who initially committed to NC State via the transfer portal to fill the center field gap left by Eli Serrano III, has now decided to return to Campbell for his senior season. He confirmed to Pack Pride that he has decommitted and will play for Campbell again in 2025.

Last season, Thompson posted an impressive .313/.396/.554 batting line, with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs for the Camels.

His decommitment from NC State comes just weeks after the 2024 MLB Draft, during which Pack9 commitment Tyler Head was not selected. Perfect Game ranks Head as the No. 48 player and the No. 9 outfielder in the 2024 class. With Head joining the Wolfpack instead of pursuing a professional career, the team still has a potential successor for the center field position.

The Pack has added signee Trey Bentley to its high school outfield class, along with junior college recruits Brayden Fraasman from Lincoln Trail College and Jet Gilliam from the College of Southern Nevada, as part of its new group of incoming outfielders.
