Must Read: Talented star player continues to prove his value to the KC Royals

Logan Porter: The Unsung Hero of the KC Royals’ Minor League System

As a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals, I’ve been closely following the career of Logan Porter, a talented catcher who has been making waves in the minor league system. Porter has spent the past three seasons with the Royals’ Triple-A affiliate in Omaha, where he has consistently proven his worth both behind and at the plate.

This season, Porter has been on a tear, slashing an impressive .340/.462/.596 for the Storm Chasers. His on-base percentage of .462 and batting average of .279 are a testament to his skill and dedication to the game. It’s no wonder that I, along with many other Royals fans, have become big fans of this rising star.

However, despite Porter’s impressive numbers and potential, it seems that the Royals organization may not share our enthusiasm. Last September, Porter was given his first taste of big league action when a finger fracture sidelined primary Salvador Perez backup Freddy Fermin. In his 11 games with the Royals, Porter went 6-for-31 and hit his first, and so far only, major league home run.

While these 11 games may not provide enough data to fully evaluate Porter’s suitability for the majors, the Royals have not shown much interest in bringing him up to Kansas City for an extended period. This lack of interest is disappointing, as Porter has proven himself to be a valuable asset in the minor leagues.

Perhaps it’s time for the Royals to consider finding a trade partner who is interested in making Porter a major league catcher. He deserves a chance to showcase his skills on the big stage, and it would be a shame to see his talent go to waste in the minor league system.

Despite my disappointment, I take solace in knowing that the Royals are in good hands with Freddy Fermin. If I can’t have Porter, Fermin is a more than capable backup for Salvador Perez. However, I can’t help but wonder what Porter could accomplish if given the opportunity to play regularly in the majors.

As a fan, I will continue to follow Porter’s career with great interest, hoping that he will one day get the recognition and playing time he deserves. Until then, I’ll be cheering him on from the stands in Omaha, eagerly awaiting the day when he finally gets his chance to shine in the big leagues.

Freddy Fermin is a reliable and capable backup catcher for Salvador Perez, providing a solid option for the Kansas City Royals when needed.

Freddy Fermin: The Unsung Hero of the Kansas City Royals

When the Royals named Freddy Fermin as Salvador Perez’s backup catcher early last season, I was skeptical. However, Fermin’s impressive performance at Omaha, where he was slashing .314/.448/.674, and his three appearances for Kansas City in 2022 gave me hope that he could fill the role effectively.

Fermin did not disappoint. He homered nine times, drove in 32 runs, and hit .281, with a 108 wRC+ when he broke his finger. Defensively, he threw out 16 of 35 would-be base stealers, ranking in the 87th percentile per Baseball Savant, and was in the 92nd percentile in blocks. His overall performance earned him an A grade from me.

Fermin has continued his impressive form this season. He has played in 32 of the Royals’ 59 games, hitting .297 with a .347 on-base percentage, and has gunned down five of the eight opponents who’ve dared to run on him.

One notable moment from Fermin’s recent performance came during the Royals’ 11-8 loss to San Diego on Friday night. With the Royals facing an eight-run deficit going into the ninth inning, manager Matt Quatraro replaced Perez with Fermin to start the frame and have Nick Loftin pitch. Despite the long odds, Fermin came through in the clutch, drilling a two-run single to center that reduced the Padres’ lead to three.

Fermin’s impressive performance has solidified his position as a reliable backup for Salvador Perez. His ability to contribute both offensively and defensively has made him a valuable asset to the Royals.
