On Wednesday, three promising Blue Jackets prospects, Denton Mateychuk, Martin Rysavy, and Max McCue, had a remarkable day as their teams clinched Canadian Hockey League championships at the junior level. Mateychuk and Rysavy played pivotal roles in Moose Jaw’s historic 4-0 sweep of Portland to secure the franchise’s first Western Hockey League title, while McCue contributed to London’s dominant sweep of Oshawa in the Ontario Hockey League.
These talented prospects will now progress to the prestigious Memorial Cup, the pinnacle of Canadian junior hockey, commencing on May 24 in Saginaw, Michigan. Mateychuk, a first-round pick in the 2022 draft, showcased exceptional playoff performances, culminating in being named the WHL playoffs MVP after an impressive postseason run. Rysavy, a seventh-round pick in 2021, excelled in both the regular season and playoffs, making significant contributions to Moose Jaw’s success.
McCue, who signed with the Blue Jackets in March, played a crucial role in London’s championship victory, displaying consistent performance throughout the postseason. Joining them at the Memorial Cup is Nolan Lalonde, a goaltender signed by the Blue Jackets, who plays for the host team Saginaw. Lalonde had a strong season with the Spirit and delivered solid performances in the playoffs. This year’s Memorial Cup promises to be an exciting event with these talented prospects showcasing their skills on a national stage.
