Due to concerns over depth at cornerback following a series of injuries in their season-opening victory against Washington, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added a familiar reinforcement to their defense. On Tuesday, they re-signed first-year cornerback Keenan Isaac, who spent his rookie season in 2023 bouncing between the practice squad and the active roster in Tampa.
Isaac took the roster spot left vacant by cornerback Bryce Hall, who was placed on injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury that forced him to be carted off the field with his leg in an air cast. The Buccaneers also lost starting cornerback Zyon McCollum (concussion) and reserve Josh Hayes (ankle) during the game, leaving their availability for the Week Two matchup in Detroit uncertain.
Isaac initially joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent from Alabama State in 2023. He began the season on the practice squad and saw action in two games after being elevated for game day. He was signed to the active roster in Week 12 but did not play in the next three games before returning to the practice squad.
This summer, Isaac participated in training camp with the Buccaneers, appearing in all three preseason games, where he recorded three tackles and an interception. He was waived during the league-wide cutdown to 53 players and was subsequently claimed by the Carolina Panthers, who released him last Saturday.
During his college career at Alabama State, Isaac played in 36 games over four seasons, recording 161 tackles, five interceptions, 31 passes defended, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
