MSU’ Receive Another Bitter News
Michigan State men’s basketball had a chance to secure a transfer portal player when former Santa Clara guard Tyeree Bryan revealed on social media Wednesday that the Spartans were among his top choices. However, shortly afterward, he committed to Texas Tech.
Bryan would have been an ideal addition for the Spartans’ backcourt, which still needs a reliable scoring guard. Standing at 6-5 and weighing 210 pounds, he was rated a four-star transfer by 247Sports, ranking as the No. 50 shooting guard in the portal.

Bryan began his college career at Charleston Southern before transferring to Santa Clara in 2023. This past season, he started in 25 of 32 games for the Broncos, averaging 10.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. He had impressive shooting percentages, hitting nearly 43% from three-point range and 46.3% from the field.
He achieved a career-high of 35 points against Gonzaga, who had been ranked 16th in the nation at the time. Although Bryan was the fifth-leading scorer on his team, he had the potential to be developed into a strong scorer by Tom Izzo, which is exactly what Michigan State needs right now.
In addition to Texas Tech, Bryan was also considering Michigan State, Michigan, West Virginia, Clemson, Miami (FL), and DePaul

Michigan State will enter the next season without freshman standout Jase Richardson, who declared for the NBA Draft on Tuesday, along with teammates Jaden Akins, Tre Holloman, Frankie Fidler, Szymon Zapala, Xavier Booker, and Gehrig Normand.
The Spartans urgently need to pursue players from the transfer portal, but the positive news for fans is that it appears efforts are being made to do so.
There hadn’t been any recent reports on Michigan State’s activity in the portal, suggesting the program is keeping its plans under wraps. Bryan’s announcement of his top choices on Wednesday was the first real sign of communication.
While missing out on Bryan is disappointing, there are still many options available. However, the Spartans need to start making moves soon if they want to capitalize on the portal.
The transfer portal opened on March 24 and will close on April 22.
