The Hawkeyes are traveling to the Major League Baseball this time. Pitcher Brody Brecht is the next Iowa Hawkeye to jump. In the 2024 MLB Draft, he was chosen by the Colorado Rockies with the 38th overall choice.

Brecht is one of three college players whom the Rockies selected with their draft picks, along with Charlie Condon of the Georgia Bulldogs and Jared Thomas of the Texas Longhorns.

Brecht pitched in 15 games and had a 3.33 ERA in the previous campaign. In 78.1 innings thrown, he gave up just 46 hits and 128 strikeouts against just 48 walks. At Iowa, he has a 3.49 career earned run average with a 281 strikeout to 135 walk ratio.

Brecht was a gifted athlete who played baseball and football before moving to Iowa. He was a three-star football recruit coming out of high school, and as a member of the Iowa class of 2021, he committed to play wide receiver. Brecht was ranked as the No. 11 recruit in Iowa for the class of 2021 by 247Sports.

In his brief football career, he caught nine passes for 87 yards before making the wise decision to devote himself entirely to baseball.
