Mississippi State Reportedly Receives Yet Another Unfortunate Transfer Portal News

One of Mississippi State’s starters from last year is headed to an SEC foe. Former Bulldogs center Michael Nwoko announced he’ll be going to LSU next year. He becomes the first player to join the Tigers out of the portal during this cycle. The 6-foot-10, 245 pounder is coming off a decent 2024-25 season where he started 32 games in Starkville.
Nwoko averaged 6.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He also shot 52.5 percent from the floor during the course of the season. Nwoko came to Mississippi State with an international background.
The Toronto native became a four-star at Prolific Prep in Napa, California, according to 247Sports. He averaged 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds during his senior season before commiting to Miami to play for Jim Larrañaga. He was a nominee for the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Game, along with being the second-leading scorer for the World Select Team at the 2023 NIKE Hoop Summit game.
As part of the Bulldogs portal haul in 2024, Nwoko looked to be a regular contributor and accomplished his goal. He’s on the move for a second time in his career with two years of eligibility remaining. If he can work into being a regular starter for the Tigers, Nwoko could get some NBA buzz as a fringe second-rounder.
