Mississippi State dealt with brutal transfer portal news
Riley Kugel has reportedly decided to enter the transfer portal.
That’s according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Kugel spent 1 year at Mississippi State after beginning his college career with Florida. Now, the talented shooter will be moving on for the final year of his collegiate eligibility.

Kugel was a big reason why Mississippi State made the NCAA Tournament this year under Chris Jans. He averaged over 9 points per game and was a key piece off the bench for the Bulldogs this year, although he also started 14 games.
Kugel enters the portal with significant upside for a player who is entering their senior season. At Florida, Kugel was once viewed as a future NBA prospect in an off-guard scoring role. While that hasn’t yet materialized, the potential still exists for Kugel to be a very impactful scorer in the college game.
Jans and his staff will have their work cut out for them this offseason as they look to rebuild this roster ahead of 2025-26. The Bulldogs might also have to replace star guard Josh Hubbard, who declared for the 2025 NBA Draft earlier this week. However, Hubbard indicated he will maintain his college eligibility in the event he decides to return to Mississippi State.
