The Minnesota Vikings have seen a lot of player movement throughout the first day of the NFL free agency tampering window being open.
Some of that player movement has been players leaving town, such as Sam Darnold and Camryn Bynum. Other movements have been bringing players on board, like the moves of Ryan Kelly and Isaiah Rodgers.
One of the big questions that the Vikings were facing was whether or not they would be able to re-sign cornerback Byron Murphy Jr.

Thankfully, that question has been answered in a positive way.
According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Minnesota was able to negotiate and agree to a three-year, $66 million contract to bring the breakout cornerback back.

Murphy was a huge part of the Vikings’ elite defense during the 2024 season. He fits perfectly into defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ aggressive system and has become one of the better playmaking cornerbacks in the NFL.

Despite a lot of teams having interest in him, returning to Minnesota was clearly at the top of his list as well.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Vikings, Murphy ended up playing in 17 games. He racked up 81 total tackles to go along with a forced fumble, six interceptions, and 14 defended passes. Those numbers show just how productive he is capable of being.
At just 27 years old, Murphy is in the middle of his prime. His three-year deal will give Minnesota three more years of his prime.
On the outside looking in, the Vikings could not have gotten a better deal done with him. The price tag is right for him and Murphy is well taken care of with it as well.
Both sides won big with the agreement in place.
Now, Minnesota will be looking to take the next step in 2025. The Vikings finished 2024 with a 14-3 record, which was good enough for second place in the NFC North behind the Detroit Lions.
In 2025, Minnesota will be gunning for the NFC North title and a deep playoff run. Keeping Murphy in town will be a big part of the attempt to accomplish that goal.
Expect to see Murphy continue playing at a high level moving forward. Being able to re-sign him will go down as a massive win for the Vikings.
