The Michigan State Spartans are one of the top teams in all of college basketball this season. In fact, no one expected them to be this great, but the Spartans defied the odds when they won the regular-season Big Ten title outright.

The end of the regular season was quite eventful for the Spartans. They hit a half-court buzzer-beater to defeat Maryland on the road, and on Senior Day, Michigan State got into an altercation with Michigan after they disrespected the Spartans’ tradition. Michigan State then lost their semifinal game against Wisconsin, which dashed their hopes of completing a Big Ten title sweep this season.

In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Michigan State faced off against Bryant, a game that was expected to be an easy win. But in March, anything can happen. The Spartans, however, took care of Bryant with a dominant 87-62 victory, despite trailing early in the game. This win sets up a second-round game on Sunday night, where they hope to continue their success.

The Spartans are set to face the New Mexico Lobos, who are coached by Richard Pitino, the son of the legendary Rick Pitino. Izzo has already had his fair share of games against the elder Pitino, and now, he’s set to go up against the younger Pitino. Izzo made a very blunt comment about the Pitino family:

“D*** family is ruining my life,” Izzo told the media.

Izzo definitely didn’t hold back on his thoughts. The Spartans’ head coach knows Pitino will have his team prepared. At 42, Pitino is just beginning to build a legacy of his own, one that mirrors his father’s. Izzo will do everything in his power to prevent Pitino from ruining his team’s remarkable season, but when the game tips off, madness is sure to unfold.
