Michigan State Spartans Again Have Lose Another Key Player To A rival Big Ten school
The Michigan State Spartans have officially lost a key defensive leader, as Detroit native Dillon Tatum announced his transfer to the Northwestern Wildcats. He revealed the move on social media just hours after graduating from Michigan State.
While it’s unclear whether Michigan and head coach Sherrone Moore contacted Tatum during his time in the transfer portal, the Wolverines were known to have heavily recruited him out of high school. Michigan, which takes pride in retaining in-state talent, was a finalist alongside Michigan State during Tatum’s initial recruitment. He ultimately chose the Spartans and went on to have three strong seasons in East Lansing.

Tatum joins Northwestern with one year of eligibility remaining, bringing valuable experience and talent to a Wildcats team that faced challenges last season. Adding a seasoned, ready-to-contribute player like Tatum is a significant boost for Northwestern. On the flip side, it’s a tough loss for Michigan State, a program already struggling on the recruiting front and making minimal impact in the transfer portal. Tatum’s departure only adds to the growing concerns in East Lansing.
