Michigan State Hit With Another Setback Following A Devastating Injury Of A Significant Player

Aidan Chiles takes hit for Michigan State football struggles in debut

Each week, Michigan State football fans brace themselves for the pregame availability report, which often brings unwelcome news—and this week is no exception.

As the Spartans prepare to take on the No. 3 team in the nation on the road, they’ll be missing a staggering 15 players.

That’s right—15 players have been ruled either “out” for Saturday’s game or sidelined for the entire season. Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows posted the updated availability report Saturday afternoon, which included an update on quarterback Aidan Chiles.

Good news: Chiles isn’t listed, meaning he’s eligible to play.

On the flip side, Ashton Lepo is confirmed out for the season, while Nijhay Burt is back in action. It’s a long list of absences, and Michigan State has a tough challenge ahead.

Earlier this week, reports suggested Aidan Chiles would likely be available for Saturday’s game, but the coaching staff might still choose to give him another week to recover after sustaining injuries in back-to-back games. With four offensive linemen sidelined and facing a top-five defense on the road, resting him might be the smart move—though the final decision on the QB1 spot remains to be seen.

And yes, it’s true—Michigan State is missing four offensive linemen with starting experience. Ashton Lepo has officially been ruled out for the season, joining Luka Vincic. Kristian Phillips was added to the injury list this week, alongside Stanton Ramil.

Michigan State's Ade Willie celebrates after breaking up a Youngstown State pass during the first quarter on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing.

Adding to the injury woes, Anelu Lafaele is now also out for the season. He was seen on crutches and in a walking boot after the loss to Nebraska—a new blow to the already-depleted roster.

To make matters worse, Indiana—Michigan State’s opponent—is only missing two players.

That’s right: a 3-3 team riding a three-game losing streak is down 15 players, while the No. 3 team in the country is nearly at full strength. This one could get ugly fast.
