Michigan Basketball Sparks Hope for Resurgence with Dominant Win

Michigan basketball is reigniting excitement for a strong season under head coach Dusty May after a commanding victory over the Cleveland State Vikings, winning 101-53 at the Crisler Center. This impressive performance had many fans reminiscing about the John Beilein era, as the team made 10 of 18 three-point shots and had six players scoring in double digits.

In addition to this great start, coach May received fantastic news on Saturday with a commitment from a top high school talent, marking a significant boost for the program. The highly regarded player cited his trust in the Wolverines as a major factor in his decision, highlighting the strong relationship he felt with the coaching staff and the connection with his family’s values.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, this guard has drawn interest from several prestigious programs, including Georgetown, Michigan State, and Indiana, among others. He competes at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School and made his college decision public while wearing a Detroit Red Wings jersey.

Coach May expressed his excitement during a livestream reveal, saying it’s a “great day to be a Michigan Wolverine” and looking forward to coaching him.

The newly committed player is Trey McKenney, who has a wingspan of 6-foot-9 and is ranked as a Top 25 recruit, including being 16th on the 2025 ESPN Top 100 list. Last season, McKenney averaged an impressive 22.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game
