Mets shuffle roster as Jose Siri comes off the IL

The New York Mets currently find themselves with their backs against the wall. They hold the National League’s last wild card spot with just a few regular-season series left to be played.

They must put their best foot forward and string together some wins in order to give themselves some breathing room. Unfortunately, they were not able to give red-hot starting pitcher Nolan McLean some run support for his start on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies, where they lost 1-0.

Luckily, the club is getting some reinforcements from the injured list. Jose Siri has been activated from the 60-day injured list, while relief pitcher Wander Suero has been designated for assignment, and outfielder Jared Young has been optioned to Triple-A, via MLB Trade Rumors’ Steve Adams.

He also mentioned that the RHP Justin Garza, who was DFA’d by the team previously, had cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Syracuse.

Jose Siri returns to his starting spot in center field

The Mets are wasting no time getting Jose Siri back to being comfortable as the starting center fielder. He has been penciled in to bat ninth in Tuesday’s game against the Phillies, while manning center field.

Cedric Mullins, who had been taking over center field after being acquired by the Mets at the deadline, will be given the day off. He has struggled at the plate this season, hitting .174 across 30 games, and New York is hoping Siri can give them the boost they need offensively as well as defensively.
