Mets’ Carlos Mendoza Makes Major Announcement After Loss to Athletics
The New York Mets fell 3-1 to the Athletics on Saturday. Despite the loss, New York still sits in a tie atop the National League East division with a 9-5 record through 14 games.
As their offense has lagged, New York has been carried by MLB’s best pitching staff. Leading baseball with a 2.47 team ERA, the Mets have held opponents to a .220 batting average.
This has offset the Mets’ offense ranking 21st in runs scored. Outside of Juan Soto, the outfield has been especially lackluster offensively for New York. One newcomer the Mets hoped could provide a spark was center fielder Jose Siri, but the 29-year-old has recorded just one hit in his first 20 at-bats and is also now dealing with an injury.

Siri has primarily been known as defense-first outfielder, but New York was hoping to get something closer to his 105 OPS+ in 2023 with the Tampa Bay Rays. While his 2025 campaign has not started well, it seems Siri has at least avoided serious injury after exiting Saturday’s game in a lot of pain.
