Memphis Tigers’ football releases initial depth chart of 2024 season

The Memphis Tigers football team has released its initial depth chart for the 2024 season, providing fans and analysts a glimpse into the roster as they prepare for the upcoming campaign. Under the direction of head coach Ryan Silverfield, the Tigers are looking to build on their previous successes and make a significant impact in the American Athletic Conference.

Offense Overview

At the quarterback position, Seth Henigan is set to lead the offense. Henigan, a senior, has shown impressive skills in previous seasons and will be pivotal in executing the pro spread offensive scheme. He is backed up by Cade Cunningham, a redshirt junior, and Harris Boyd, a redshirt freshman, indicating a solid depth at the position.

The receiving corps looks promising, featuring Roc Taylor and Ja’Koby Banks as key targets. Taylor, a senior, is expected to play a crucial role in the passing game, while Banks, a sophomore, brings youthful energy and talent. The depth chart also includes experienced players like Demeer Blankumsee and Marcello Bussey, who will contribute significantly to the Tigers’ aerial attack.

The offensive line is anchored by Jaylen Nichols at left tackle and Jonah Gambill at center. This unit will be essential for providing Henigan the protection he needs to operate effectively and for creating running lanes for the backs.

Defensive Lineup

On the defensive side, Memphis is implementing a 4-3 scheme, which will allow for a balanced approach to stopping both the run and the pass. CorMontae Hamilton leads the defensive end position, bringing experience and skill to the front line. The defensive tackle position is manned by Patrick Lucas Jr., who is expected to disrupt opposing offenses.

The linebacker corps features a mix of seasoned players and newcomers, ensuring depth and versatility. This group will be tasked with making crucial tackles and providing support in coverage against opposing tight ends and running backs.

### Special Teams

In special teams, Memphis has a solid kicker in Tanner Gillis, who will be responsible for field goals and extra points. The punting duties are expected to be shared, providing flexibility in the kicking game.

As the Tigers gear up for the 2024 season, this initial depth chart reflects a blend of experience and fresh talent. The coaching staff is optimistic about the team’s potential, and fans are eager to see how these players will perform when the season kicks off. With a challenging schedule ahead, including key matchups in the conference, the Tigers are poised to make a statement in the upcoming season.
