Two UCLA running backs have recently announced their decision to enter the transfer portal, adding to the growing list of players who will be seeking new opportunities.
These players, who each participated in just one game during their time at UCLA, are a redshirt junior and a redshirt freshman. The first player, a 5-11, 200-pound running back, saw limited action in 2023, appearing in a single game against Alabama State. In that appearance, he carried the ball six times for 34 yards but struggled with injuries throughout his career, including two ACL tears. A highly-touted recruit from Centreville, Alabama, he joined UCLA in 2021 as a four-star prospect, making a significant move from SEC territory to Westwood.
The second player, a 6-2, 220-pound bruiser, came to UCLA in 2023 as a three-star recruit from Ferndale, Washington. He also had limited opportunities on the field in 2023, rushing the ball just once for no gain against North Carolina Central.
Both players were originally recruited by the former UCLA running backs coach. The transfer portal opens on December 9th and remains active until December 28th, and these two running backs bring the total number of UCLA players entering the portal to 10 since Monday. They join several other players, including edge rusher Collins Acheampong, running back TJ Harden, quarterback Justyn Martin, safety Clint Stephens, safety DJ Justice, safety RJ Jones, receiver Logan Loya, and receiver Braden Pegan.
The two players who announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal are Deshun Murrell and Isaiah Carlson
