Masive Crisis as Canucks and Hurricanes Trade Optics for Necas Have Changed
When questioned about the potential trade involving Carolina Hurricanes’ forward Martin Necas and the Vancouver Canucks’ interest, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman indicated that the Canucks are still keen on the idea. However, the trade has become significantly more intricate in recent times.
While appearing on the Donnie & Dhali Show, Friedman mentioned that there have been discussions suggesting Necas could be returning to the Carolina Hurricanes. He also highlighted that this isn’t the preferred scenario as both parties disagree on his future. Even though the Canucks are eager to secure Necas, the absence of Elias Pettersson in the trade discussions adds a layer of complexity to the situation.

Elliotte Friedman reported that previous discussions between the two teams involved Elias Pettersson, although Pettersson himself didn’t view those talks as very substantial. Now, with Pettersson having signed a long-term deal, the dynamics of a potential trade have shifted.
The absence of Elias Pettersson in the equation is seen as a significant obstacle to reaching a deal. Friedman suggested that since Pettersson is no longer available for trade, the negotiations have become more challenging. He mentioned that both Pettersson and Necas had been part of earlier trade discussions. “The asking price is high. It’s unlikely that Filip Hronek alone would suffice; they may also request one of your top prospects,” Friedman added.
Given the changes in the current discussions compared to the past, completing the deal without Pettersson’s involvement would be much more difficult than it would have been previously.
