Marshall Football’s 2025 schedule was officially announced Friday after its release by the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN.

The Thundering Herd will host six home games, including two notable Sun Belt matchups at Joan C. Edwards Stadium: the Homecoming game against Old Dominion on October 11, and the “’75 Game” versus James Madison on November 8.

“We’re thrilled to have our 2025 schedule set so that fans can start making plans to support the team,” said head coach Tony Gibson. “Marshall has always been a challenging place for opponents, and I’m excited to lead our squad onto the field this fall. We need every fan to show up, grab their tickets, and pack ‘The Joan’ as we kick off the season!”

Marshall is coming off an impressive 2024 season, where they claimed the Sun Belt Conference Championship with a 10-3 record. The Herd ended the year on a seven-game winning streak, capped by a dominant 31-3 victory over Louisiana in the Sun Belt title game at Cajun Field in Lafayette.

Looking to build on that success, Marshall enters the 2025 season under the direction of new head coach Tony Gibson, a native of West Virginia. Gibson brings a fresh coaching staff and more than 60 new players to the roster.

The 2025 campaign kicks off with a challenging road matchup against SEC powerhouse Georgia on August 30 — Marshall’s second visit to Sanford Stadium, the first being a tight 13-3 loss in 2004.

Marshall’s home opener is set for September 6 against Missouri State, marking the Bears’ first game as a Conference USA member and first-ever trip to Huntington. The game will be celebrated as the “We Are … Marshall” game. A week later, Eastern Kentucky visits for the “We Are … Thankful For Heroes” game, which honors service members.

The Herd concludes non-conference play on September 20 at Middle Tennessee, then returns to Cajun Field to face Louisiana on September 27 for the start of Sun Belt Conference play.

After a bye week, Marshall will host Old Dominion on October 11 for Homecoming 2025 — the start of back-to-back home games. On October 18, Texas State visits for its first game in West Virginia, part of the “We Are … Herd Strong” celebration.

Marshall’s second bye precedes a highly anticipated, nationally televised Thursday night road game at Coastal Carolina on October 30.

The team returns to Huntington on November 8 for the emotional “We Are … Playing for the ’75’” Game against James Madison. This annual tribute honors the 75 lives lost in the tragic 1970 plane crash, which remains the deadliest sports-related air disaster in history.

November continues with key road games at Georgia State (Nov. 15) and Appalachian State (Nov. 22), both of which could influence the Sun Belt East standings.

Marshall wraps up the regular season at home on November 29 against Georgia Southern, with Senior Day celebrations planned.

Season tickets are available now through the official Marshall Athletics website. Additional game themes and updates will be shared via HerdZone.com and Marshall’s social media. Game times and TV broadcast details will be announced later this spring by the Sun Belt Conference and ESPN.
