Quaintance, a 6-foot-9 forward from Cleveland, played his freshman season at Arizona State in 2024–25. He recently underwent ACL surgery, and the goal is for him to be ready in time for the start of the season in November.
When asked if Quaintance would be available for the season opener in less than six months, Pope responded, “We’ll see. We’re going to move as quickly as we can with the most cautious approach possible.”
Quaintance initially committed to Kentucky under former head coach John Calipari and was among the top names in the transfer portal this offseason. Now recommitted to Kentucky, he is expected to bring a similar defensive presence to what Amari Williams provided last season, particularly in shot-blocking and rebounding.
He’s set to form a strong frontcourt tandem with Mohamed Dioubate, another transfer addition from Alabama.
During his time with Arizona State last season, Quaintance started 24 games, averaging 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game, while shooting 52.5% from the floor.
