Matthew Knies sustained an injury during the second period of Toronto’s match on Wednesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
After a collision with Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko, Knies had difficulty getting back on his feet and did not come back for the rest of the game. The Maple Leafs have reported that Knies will miss further play due to an upper-body injury.

Leafs head coach Craig Berube said he had “no immediate update” on Knies’ status Wednesday night.
On Thursday, reporter Nick Alberga stated that Knies is listed as day-to-day due to a knee injury, which is not deemed serious. The Maple Leafs have not yet provided an update on Knies’ injury status. This is a positive development for the Leafs, as they seem to avoid a long-term loss of Knies, especially after already being without John Tavares in their top six
The team has faced numerous injury challenges this season, particularly among forwards; in addition to Tavares and Knies, captain Auston Matthews has been injured twice. Other forwards currently sidelined for Toronto include Max Pacioretty, Calle Jarnkrok, and Connor Dewar. Fortunately for the Maple Leafs, Knies’ injury seems to be minor, and he is expected to return soon. The 22-year-old has recorded 18 goals and 31 points in 47 games this season.
