Major Setback: Former UAB standout to miss the rest of the NFL season due to a devastating injury

Defensive end Alex Wright made a crucial play in the Cleveland Browns’ only victory this season, sacking Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the end zone for a safety with 1:44 left on September 15.

The two points extended Cleveland’s lead to 18-13, forcing the Jaguars to seek a touchdown instead of attempting a tying field goal when they reached the Browns’ 33-yard line on their final drive.

Unfortunately, Wright will not contribute any more significant plays for Cleveland this 2024 season. The former Elba High School and UAB star has had triceps surgery, which the Browns announced will keep him sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

Wright had announced his injury on social media earlier on Thursday.

“After the Jacksonville game, I got an MRI on my tricep because I was dealing with pain from a strain in the same spot during joint practice vs. the Vikings,” Wright wrote. “Somehow it became (a) freak accident because I didn’t even use my right arm on the play. So after finding out about it, I still battled through the pain and all. Fast forward, I got my last MRI checkup, and it has progressed to worse from a partial tear. So now surgery is taking place, which leads me to missing the rest of the season. Anybody who knows me, know I love football to death, but 91 is going to be all right for sure. Everything happens for a reason. It’s in God’s plan. 91’s coming back with mean-ass vengeance, I promise you. I stamp that!”
