Tensions are rising between the New York Rangers and captain Jacob Trouba amid rumors that the team may be planning to remove his captaincy.
Heading into the season, the Rangers were considered strong contenders for the Stanley Cup. However, after encountering multiple challenges in the first quarter of the season and enduring a five-game losing streak, the team’s outlook has significantly dimmed.
Despite their struggles, the Rangers currently hold the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and still have a chance to bounce back.
However, the team’s slow start has prompted General Manager Chris Drury to consider significant changes, placing key players like Jacob Trouba, Chris Kreider, and Kaapo Kakko on the trade block.
It’s no secret now, as it has been confirmed that the Rangers were trying to trade Jacob Trouba during the offseason but the trade never materialized.
Now, according to several reports GM Chris Drury and head coach Peter Laviolette are looking to shake things up and potentially strip Jacob Trouba of his captaincy.
Unfortunately Jacob Trouba has been a disappointment for the Rangers over the last two seasons, and with an $8 million cap hit it’s holding the organization back from making big moves.
At the end of the day, only time will tell if the New York Rangers will strip Jacob Trouba of his captaincy.
