Mack Brown addresses report of resignation after loss to JMU

Emotions were intense in North Carolina’s locker room after the Tar Heels were defeated by JMU 70-50 in Chapel Hill. This loss marked the highest number of points UNC has conceded, matching a previous record set by ECU in 2014.
After the game, a report from Inside Carolina indicated that head coach Mack Brown was emotional and told his team he would be stepping down. However, shortly after, someone close to the program stated that Brown had no intention of resigning or quitting his coaching role. Now, ESPN’s Chris Low reports that Brown clarified to the network that he “will be back at work” on Sunday following the disappointing loss on Saturday.Low confirmed that the locker room atmosphere was emotional, and Brown mentioned he would consider stepping away if he couldn’t resolve issues within the program. It appears Brown was deeply affected by the loss and may have reacted prematurely regarding his future with the team.

Still, there is a little confusion around the program and the future of Brown it seems like.

This loss was another tough one for Brown and his Tar Heels as it marked the eighth time they have lost as a double-digit favorite since 2019. It was also the fourth time they had lost by double digits as a double-digit favorite in the second Brown era. That’s not good.

With UNC getting set to face Duke to open up ACC play next week, they could be seeking some clarity on this situation. But one thing is certain, this could spiral out of control if the losses mount for this program.
